Getting to North Cyprus from Manchester
Manchester is unusual. Outside London it is the one UK airport where connections towards Ercan run through more than one Turkish hub, which means you are choosing between routings rather than taking whatever is available. That is a genuine advantage and it is worth using.
In practice the choice is between the larger İstanbul hub and the lower-cost Sabiha Gökçen option. The first tends to offer more connection choice; the second tends to be cheaper. Neither is the obvious winner and the right answer changes with your dates.
Ercan or Larnaca from Manchester
This is the clearest head-to-head anywhere outside London, because Manchester has both. There is a direct service to Larnaca in the south, and there are connections to Ercan in the north.
Going via Türkiye to Ercan means a change of plane, but you land inside North Cyprus and reach Kyrenia quickly afterwards. Flying direct to Larnaca means no connection at all, but a longer journey by road at the far end and a border crossing on the way. If you are considering hiring a car at Larnaca, check the cover first — hire cars from the south are generally not insured for driving north.
For a family with children who find connections hard work, the direct flight often wins despite the ground time. For a couple who would rather be at the hotel sooner, the Ercan route usually does. Our routing guide goes through both in more detail.
The catchment beyond the city
Manchester serves a good deal more than Manchester. For most of the North West, and for much of north Wales, it is the practical airport for this trip, and the drive to it is usually shorter than the drive to any alternative with comparable options. The city also has one of the larger Turkish-speaking communities in the country outside London, and a share of our Manchester guests are travelling to see family rather than on holiday.
When to go from Manchester
English school holiday dates set the peak weeks. Outside them, late spring and early autumn are the best value and arguably the best weather — warm sea, comfortable daytime temperatures, and considerably fewer people on the beaches.
